Garden Time in Kenwood

It's garden time in Kenwood! Every April I get the urge to dig in the dirt! I am a self-taught gardener and love the planning/planting process every spring. Here in Kenwood in April the wildflowers and green hills are breath-taking! It makes me want to get out and plant something! I have a little patch of garden and every year I plant new flowers or move existing ones and busily tend to the chores of gardening. I love it! It's my relaxation and quiet time. But, it also brings out the hungry rabbits and deer! They love my garden, too! I am in the middle of a natural habitat: fox, deer, rabbits, vultures, and coyotes challenge my garden everyday...but,they are the reason I choose to live in this area...nature is still abundant in the Sonoma Valley. There are many wineries in and around Kenwood...some say they are "wildlife-less" deserts, sterile and controlled, from too much spraying, tilling, fertilizing, but I disagree. I live behind the St. Francis Winery and there is much wildlife activity everyday... Coyotes howl in the distance, some chasing rabbits, fox hunting, jack rabbits darting here and there, Blue Jays and Wood Doves chatting in the trees, snow geese flying overhead on their way north stopping in at the vineyard pond for a drink, deer eating my roses...again!!! Yes...I share my garden space with all these animals...I am so lucky to live in the Sonoma Valley!
